Valorisation project

The amphitheatre is listed by the cantonal and federal authorities. Since 2022, it has been the subject of an enhancement project.
The City of Nyon acquired the land with the help of the Canton of Vaud and the Swiss Confederation. For several years, in collaboration with the Cantonal Archeology Department and the Confederation, it has been working on the preservation and public promotion of the monument. Several participatory workshops have been held with residents interested in their heritage, to better understanding their expectations.
A study credit was voted by the Municipal Council in August 2022. It makes it possible to finance the preliminary project, the architectural project and the scenography project, which will be submitted for a building loan by the end of 2025.
Where’s the project at?
The City of Nyon’s Department of Architecture, in close collaboration with the Department of Culture and the Musée romain de Nyon, is responsible for achieving the objectives set out in the study loan.
The Municipality of Nyon has appointed a scientific commission – chaired by the curator of the Musée romain – to support this project. Bringing together a number of Swiss and international specialists, the commission’s goal is to identify the issues of conservation, maintenance and promotion of archaeological remains, and to bring together the essential documentary base for the architectural and scenographic project.
An initial report was submitted in autumn 2023, with a statement on the framework conditions to be met in drawing up the specifications for the scenography competition, which is due to be launched in the first half of 2024.
